Three students from Callington Community College, Daryl Jones, Ellen Chaplin and Izzy Coombes, joined 37 other Cornish Year 10 students on a visit to St John's College, Oxford.
In an archaeology session the students learned all about Pompeii, and visited the University's Natural History Museum where they got to handle hissing cockroaches! They also watched a physics demonstration in one of the University's impressive lecture theatres, and took part in a Modern English Literature workshop.
The students, who were accompanied by Mr Eynon, stayed in St John's College, one of the larger Colleges in Oxford, giving them an opportunity to experience College life and culture, and to see what is on offer at the University of Oxford.

The whole opportunity was brilliant. I met some great people, saw some of the culture and had lots of fun, including a quiz (which we won!), a treasure hunt and watching a film made in 1946. It has shown me what a great experience going to University would be and I would encourage anybody who is offered the chance to try it out, as I was, to go for it! Izzy Coombes, Year 10 |
