The Department

Our aim is to tailor our modern curriculum to support learners in becoming active, confident, independent citizens who are committed to make positive and successful contributions to sport and society.

As a department we understand that all of our students have different interests and needs and it is our priority to meet these needs and promote healthy, active lifestyles.

It is statutory that learners take part in at least two hours of PE a week ; we hope that your child will enjoy their PE experiences and get involved and gain much more from our curriculum plus; we have so many activities and opportunities for student to take on the roles of participants, coaches, officials and leaders so please become familiar with extra curricular clubs, fixtures and events through the college and on the VLE.

Being a specialist Sports College, we are extremely privileged  to have such wonderful, well resource facilities as well as a growing network of local clubs and expert coaching within our local community. We believe that sport brings communities closer together and through this we hope to provide a selection of route ways for both elite and recreational sports enthusiasts.

Situated as we are, so close to moorland and seaside (and with the use of expertise in our staffing ) we are able to further our curriculum and explore many Outdoor Adventurous activities such as windsurfing, sailing, surfing, kayaking, climbing and problem solving. Not only do we ‘tap' into natural resources we also bring to our curriculum areas that need further awareness within our society like Sport and Disability, Sporting Careers and Industry and much more.

We also believe that ‘Student Voice' is a valuable tool for reviewing our curriculum, to make it accessible and sustainable to all. Student Voice is shared at Sports Council meetings which are run and organized by KS4 and 5 learners. The council is split into five sub committees; Leadership; Curricular; Extra Curricular; Sports Media, and a P.E Exam/Vocational Team.   The Sports Council focus for next term is to promote healthy, active break times and information on how this develops will be sent to you in the form of a Sports Council Newsletter that is to be produced each term.
